My Best Advice: I would say the best feedback I gave was when I would tell people to expand upon some ideas in their speeches. For the last DBQ, I gave some advice about the structure of one the speeches by suggesting that they should say more about their main points to add more depth to the speech. Other then that, I realized that giving feedback is not one of my strong suits because I usually just gave compliments on the speeches instead! I would copy and paste it but I just commented it so doesn’t appear on the website yet**
Why it’s my best advice: I would say that it was a good piece of advice to give because it would help the speech out a lot. The speech that I commented this on was super great but it was a little shorter then the required speech length so I thought not only would it help with adding depth to the speech and expanding on the points made but it was also contribute to the time and make the speech longer. Basically, its a win-win situation.
Best Advice from my peers: “The tennis story was so good. I thought it was endearing and showed how kind your mom is. She seems like a girl boss and I think you did a great speech. Your points were great! I think you could try and utilize some pauses in your speech that can help emphasize some of her great traits even more.”
Why It’s Their Best Advice: I thought that this piece of advice I received was super helpful because I didn’t realize that I literally wasn’t taking pauses and my speech was like a giant run-on sentence at some points until I read this and then went back and watched it. I also thought it was great because not only did she give me the advice but she also explained how it would help with emphasizing my points more and would make the speech better. When I went to record my final version of the speech, I paid more attention to my speaking and made sure to take pauses after making points and I feel like it really helped out a lot.
My Biggest Strides:
Dry-Run: https://youtu.be/QOw72EMpMT8
Final Speech: https://youtu.be/TmU-0r2wZVk
I would say that speech #2 is where I made my “biggest stride”. I remember having a very difficult time trying to record my dry run for speech #2 because for some reason whenever I hit the button to record either my voice would get super shaky or my mind would just go completely blank after every thought. The dry-run that I posted for the assignment was probably my 20th time trying to record and I just remember being really frustrated. However, the video that I recorded for my final run of speech #2 only took me twice to record and I was very proud of myself for that. It was also interesting because when I recorded my final speech I was actually at my friends house and was surrounded by a bunch of people so I’m honestly shocked that it only took me two times to record something I was happy with even surrounded by people. When I went back and watched the videos, I noticed that in my dry run I seem more monotone and have way less personality than in my final one. I think it is easy to tell by my tone which one I felt more confident recording. I would definitely say that this is the best indication for me of the progress I’ve made because I think back to how frustrated I used to get when it would take me so long to try and film a dry-run for a speech. Now, I feel way more comfortable with the idea of recording myself talking and it’s become more normal for me which I am very happy about.
